Cities across the world are
looking festive at this time of year, and some of the most impressive
displays are visible even from a distance. In Seattle,
the Space Needle is decked out with lights in the shape of an evergreen
tree. Fireworks will shoot from the needle’s top to ring in the new
year. The construction workers adding to Seattle’s tech-hub buildings
even get into the spirit, stringing lights onto their giant cranes.
Snowy Mount Rainier makes for an elegant backdrop in Punit Sharma’s shot
taken this year from Kerry Park, just north (and uphill) from downtown.
Among
other cities with notable displays: New York City and Washington, D.C,
are both known for their giant decorated trees and brightly lit plazas.
Many German cities and towns light up traditional Christmas markets at
night. Quebec City, Canada, transforms its Old Quebec district
into an old-fashioned Christmas village. From Dec. 21-31, its City
Lights Festival illuminates streets and buildings that have seen
hundreds of years begin and end.
