Therefore, here’s a chance to check out some of the most exciting open road adventures worldwide that will surely compel you to pack your bags and drive.

1. Namib Desert, Namibia

Starting from the town of Lüderitz and going all the way up to the Walvis Bay, this epic road adventure is one of the highlights in Namibia. Whether you choose to drive along the winding paved road between these two Namibian towns or along the direct route covering the Namib Desert dune fields and Sperrgebiet National Park, you in for an adventure of a lifetime. The trip offers a chance to enjoy breathtaking coastal landscape views once you successfully traverse across one of the most challenging desert routes in the world. Remember, the ride is not easy as it might seem, because this oldest desert landscape offers very few passable tracks. But once you reach Sandwich Bay, you’re in for a treat – here the sand dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean.

2. Grand Teton to Yellowstone, Wyoming, USA

[post_ads]The Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Its unique landscape features some of nature’s most bizarre sights including hot geysers, multiple waterfalls, blue-ribbon rivers, and a high-altitude lake. To the south of Wyoming, we have the Grand Teton National Park that complements Yellowstone with its share of the bizarre – peaceful waterways, rugged peaks, and the sublime alpine terrain. Therefore, if you crave for some truly unique sights in this part of the world, take a road trip from Grand Teton to Yellowstone. Starting from Jackson, you get a chance to spot wildlife such as bison, elk, and hordes of bighorn sheep at the National Elk Refuge and the Moose-Wilson back road. Likewise, the lowlands at Oxbow Bend offer a chance to sight elk, moose, bald eagles and, occasional bear and bison jams.

3. Chianti Road, Italy

Starting from the historic city of Florence and extending up to Siena, this absolute classic road trip through Chianti country is an amazing experience. Linking these two important medieval cities, this road lazily meanders through picturesque views of cypress trees, vineyards, expanses of wildflowers, and olive groves. Therefore, once you’re here in Florence to enjoy its rich architectural heritage, hire a convertible and head south to Siena. Here in Sienna, you can explore one of the highly coveted tourism itineraries in the world, comprising the 12th-century Piazza del Campo and the magnificent Siena Cathedral. In between, take your time enjoying the honey-colored hills and exotic enotecas (wine shops). Make sure to taste some of the region’s revered wines including the Chianti Classico.

4. Dempster Highway, Canada

If you seek an adventure that takes you through a challenging terrain, look no further than the Dempster Highway in Canada. Extending between the cities of Inuvik and Dawson City, this hard-core gravel track branches off swings through pristine wilderness and some of the most amazing cityscapes in the country before culminating in a far-flung territory way into the Arctic. Starting 2018, you can even drive further, all the way up to Tuktoyaktuk (a small settlement dotting the shores of the Arctic Ocean.) The entire drive is surprisingly lonely yet gorgeous and takes you through dense forests (where you might spot a grizzly bear), snow-tipped mountainous terrain and vast tundra stretch. Since you’ll find very less human inhabitation along the route, be sure to take enough supplies and a couple of spare tires.

5. B9 Road, Mauritius

We agree that the B9 is a boring name. Yet this winding route skirting the shoreline of Mauritius and the Indian Ocean in the backdrop is one of the most beautiful experiences you’ll ever have. Extending through the entire country, the road treads through sights including Le Morne Brabant (a stunning monolith erected in the memory of the island’s escaped slaves, Macondé Rock in Baie-du-Cap district, and the beaches in Bel Ombre and Saint Martin. Along the route, you can also stop to explore the reefs at the Jacotet Bay, snorkeling at St Félix Beach, sunbathe at Riambel Beach, precarious cliff-top trails overlooking the ocean at Gris Gris, before reaching Souillac.
