We all know that plants make our homes happy and healthy, not to mention considerably chicer. Only one problem: We're not exactly great at keeping them alive. Which is why we're pretty excited about the latest craze in haute greenery. Friends, meet "moss art," the edgy answer to your cursed black thumb.

What is it?

Exactly what it sounds like: Flora "paintings" or decor accents made from naturally preserved ferns, moss and lichen. As seen above and below, moss art additions by L.A.-based artist Kelley Anderson make for a surprising and visually impactful decor addition to any room. And the best part? You guessed it—no maintenance (aka pruning or watering) necessary.

Why are they trending?

Two words: Wabi sabi. Earthy, organic decor has been steadily rising over the past few years (see: stonewashed linens, handmade ceramics). So it's really only fitting that greenery trends would follow suit, embracing botanical elements in their purist forms.

Anything else?

Oui: If you're of more traditional tastes, you can still adopt the trend by keeping things clean and simple. Think: Adding preserved moss topiaries to a mantle, or preserved moss in a bowl to your a tabletop—like in this lovely coffee table vignette by designer Sean Anderson. May we never murder another succulent again.
