Hungry customers raced to their nearest McDonald’s restaurants after the fast food giant said it would bring back the popular menu item earlier this week.
But, it did not take long for stocks to run out in many parts of the country.
Shortfalls were reported in Devon, Lincolnshire and Teesside.
One restaurant in Middlesborough said a “national shortage” meant they could not sell more of the 741 calorie burgers.

It added: “Unfortunately we cannot sell any Grand Macs due to a national shortage.
“We hope to rectify this within 24 hours.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
In Plymouth, three McDonald’s restaurants put signs out warning there were no more Grand Big Macs.
The sign read: “So tasty it’s sold out.”

A McDonald’s spokesman told Gazette Live: “Due to the overwhelming popularity of our new Grand Big Mac some of our restaurants experienced higher than expected demand resulting in the burgers sold out for a short period of time.
“Customers should be able to get their hands on the Grand Big Mac at restaurants across the country from tomorrow if not before.”
Earlier this week, the Grand Mac launched alongside the smaller 400 calorie Mac Jr.
The £4 Grand Mac comes with larger beef patties, two slices of cheese, more lettuce and onions on massive buns.
“Customers should be able to get their hands on the Grand Big Mac at restaurants across the country from tomorrow if not before.”
