"I wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t continue the broadcast," Tirico said, adding that he has since recovered.
NBC Sports' Mike Tirico stepped away from Kentucky Derby coverage on May 3 after experiencing a reaction to a nut allergy, but he says he's doing well now.
“I feel fine. I’ve got my coffee and I’m watching the TODAY show like I do every morning,” Tirico said during a May 5 appearance on TODAY.
Tirico, who co-anchored the show for a week in April, shared that he’s had a nut allergy for most of his life and typically takes precautions with food. However, a snack he ate on Saturday unexpectedly contained nuts.
“I had a reaction—my throat and nose swelled up, making it hard to
breathe,” he explained. “I wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t continue the show, so I used an EpiPen and was treated by EMTs. I felt better later that evening, but it takes time for the reaction to fully pass.”
