Punjab Kings, batting first, are reeling at 92 for 8, with RCB’s young spinner Suyash Prabhudessai emerging as the star of the show so far. The RCB bowling attack, even without the services of veteran pacer Josh Hazlewood, who remains sidelined with an injury, has delivered a clinical performance. Mohammed Siraj provided early breakthroughs with the new ball, while Suyash and Karn Sharma have choked Punjab’s middle-order with tight lines and clever variations. The absence of Hazlewood didn’t seem to affect the intensity or execution of the RCB bowlers.
Punjab, meanwhile, have struggled to build partnerships. Despite coming into the match with confidence and strong performances in the league stage, their batting has faltered on the big stage. Star players like Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, and Jonny Bairstow couldn’t get going. With Stoinis now back in the pavilion, the tail-enders are left to try and push the total past 100 to give their bowlers something to work with.
Much of the pre-match talk focused on the big names—Virat Kohli for RCB and Shreyas Iyer for PBKS—both of whom have been in sublime form this season. However, it’s the younger talent like Suyash who is stealing the spotlight today. Kohli’s leadership and aggressive field placements have added to Punjab’s pressure, and RCB's energy in the field has been exceptional.
Punjab will now look to Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar to spearhead a miraculous turnaround with the ball. Brar’s spin and Arshdeep’s pace will be crucial if PBKS are to have any hope of defending a low total. That said, chasing even modest targets in a high-pressure knockout match isn’t always easy, and PBKS will be hoping to exploit that with early wickets.
As things stand, RCB is clearly in the driver’s seat and looks well on course to make it to the IPL 2025 final. But in a game of fine margins, a couple of quick breakthroughs could still bring PBKS back into the contest.
