Newcastle United and Chelsea square off this Sunday in a high-stakes clash that could prove decisive in the battle for a Champions League spot.

Both sides are level on 63 points, making this encounter crucial in the race for a top-five Premier League finish. Newcastle may have home advantage, but Chelsea arrive with the stronger recent form.

After lifting the Carabao Cup earlier in the season, Newcastle looked poised to secure a Champions League return. However, just one win in their last three league outings has slowed their momentum. They did defeat Chelsea on their way to that long-awaited trophy, but fell just short in their league visit to Stamford Bridge.

Injuries continue to trouble Eddie Howe's squad. Joelinton remains sidelined and may not return before season’s end. He's joined in the treatment room by Matt Targett, Jamaal Lascelles, and former Chelsea loanee Lewis Hall.

On a brighter note, Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schär—who both picked up knocks in the draw against Brighton—are reportedly "pretty good" and could be fit to feature in some capacity.

Chelsea also face several absences. Christopher Nkunku is expected to miss out again, while Wesley Fofana, Aarón Anselmino, Omari Kellyman, and the suspended Mykhailo Mudryk are all unavailable.

Marc Guiu, out since February, is nearing a return. Although tipped to potentially feature in Thursday’s Conference League semifinal second leg, he ultimately didn’t make the squad.

Manager Enzo Maresca is expected to overhaul the lineup that secured a narrow 1-0 win over Djurgården midweek.
